In some mammals like in dogs and cats, the ears move and the pinna becomes straight in order to listen to the sound more precisely. This is a helpful survival response as, when the predator arrives, they uplift their pinna in order to listen to the footsteps more accurately which will help them find the right direction to hide or run.
